James Wilburn Hodge

JOHNSON CITY - James Wilburn Hodge, 93, Johnson City, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He will be deeply missed.

He was a native of Johnson City and was a son of the late Erby and Gladys Hart Hodge.

James was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Oriskany during the Korean Conflict. He was a long term member of Harrison Christian Church. James was a professional tinkerer who loved working with both his hands and his mind, especially when it came to lawn mowers. He enjoyed fishing, but most of all, he cherished spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents James was preceded in death by an infant brother and his sister, Louise McKinney.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Georgia Lee Day Hodge; son, James T. Hodge (Laura); daughters, Amy Lee Sell, Kelly Day Hodge (Boyce); grandchildren, Andrew Hodge (Anna), Alexandra Sell, Dayton James Hodge (Torrie), Michael Todd Sell, Garnett Budd; great grandchildren, Tate, Payton, River, Anberlynn, Haven, Lainey, Afina; brother in law, Randy Day; and many friends.

The funeral service for James will be conducted on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 7:00 pm from the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with Pastor Palma Bennett, officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 6:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.

The graveside committal service will be held Friday, February 20, 2026, at 10:00 am in Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Site). Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 9:45 am.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses on the 3300 floor at the Johnson City Medical Center for the care and compassion they showed James.
