Mildred Irene Johnson Hall
November 17, 1933 -
February 16, 2026
Mildred Irene Johnson Hall, 92, was born November 17, 1933, and passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 16, 2026. Free from the burdens of this world, she is now healed, whole, and rejoicing in His presence and eternal love.
Born in Kingsport, TN, and raised in
Weber City, VA, Mildred attended Shoemaker Elementary and Gate City High School. In 1964, she and her beloved husband, Virgil, made their home in Boones Creek, where she remained for over 60 years.
As a young teenager, Mildred trusted Christ as her Savior at Holston View Methodist Church and was baptized in the Holston River in Weber City. Some years later, she was baptized again upon joining First Baptist Church in Weber City. Upon moving to Tennessee, she joined Boones Creek Baptist Church where she served for many years and later joined Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church-attending one or the other faithfully until her age & illness prevented it. Her life was marked by steadfast faith, deep love for her family and friends, and a servant's heart. She made a lasting difference in the lives of so many, offering wisdom, kindness, and encouragement to all who knew her. Her deep love for God's Word was evident-she read through her Bible more than 30 times, a testament to her unwavering faith.
In her younger days, she was an amazing water skier, which is how she and Virgil first met. She cherished camping with her family and created lifelong memories with dear friends. Her love for the outdoors also shone through in gardening, where she and her husband found joy in cultivating a thriving garden, spending countless hours breaking beans and canning vegetables. These moments of hard work and simple pleasures reflected her deep appreciation for nature, family, and the many blessings of a life well lived.
Mildred loved to tell others that she was an "old-school RN." At just 17 years old, she left home for three years to pursue her passion and attend nursing school in Abingdon, VA. Over the years, she served in several hospitals including Johnston Memorial and Holston Valley before becoming an industrial nurse at Holston Defense and ITT in Gray. Later, she transitioned into teaching Health Occupations at Daniel Boone High School, where she became a beloved mentor, launching countless students into careers in healthcare. She was always overjoyed to hear of the successes of her former students. Even after retiring, her love for teaching continued as she led the adult ladies' class at Boones Creek Baptist Church.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Hall; her parents, Oren and Lucy Johnson; and her brothers, William "Dub" Johnson and Lowell Johnson.
She is survived by her children, Ricky (Nancy) Hall and Becky (Jeff) Rhoton; her grandchildren, Natalie (Josh) Simmons, Phillip (Kellie) Hall, Sarah Rhoton, and Emily (Noah) Shelton; and her great-grandchildren, Jackson, Cameron, Kinsley, Noah, and Parker; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support of so many. A special thank you to Bill Riddle, a dear family friend who faithfully cared for Mildred over the years, neighbor Marie Campbell, who was so kind to help in many ways, as well as the many friends from Boones Creek Baptist Church and Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, whose prayers and kindness have meant so much. We are also deeply grateful for her caregivers, Teresa Montgomery and Nancy Shaw, whose compassion and dedication brought comfort in her final years.
The funeral service for Mildred will be conducted Wednesday, February 18, 2026, 6:00 pm from the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with Pastor John Herdman, officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:00-6:00 pm.
A brief graveside service for family and close friends will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026, 10:00 am in Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be chosen from her loving family and dear friends.
