Roger Simpson Obituary

Roger Melvin Simpson

June 24, 1954 -

February 15, 2026

Roger Melvin Simpson, born June 24, 1954, in Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away February 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. A cherished husband, devoted father, and doting grandfather, Roger's warm spirit touched everyone who knew him.

A proud patriot, Roger served in the United States Air Force and carried his love for his country throughout his life. After earning his associate's degree, he worked as a postal clerk with the United States Postal Service, where his friendly nature and willingness to help others made him a familiar and beloved presence in the community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Baxter Deward Simpson and Mattie Elizabeth Pealer Simpson; his brothers, J.L., Wayne, and George Simpson; and his sisters, Frances Graybeal, Arlola Cable, and Lois Simpson.

For 40 years, Roger shared a deep and loving marriage with his wife, Ann Simpson. Together they raised three children: Amanda Simpson, Justin Penley, and Daniel Simpson. He was a loving grandfather to Raine and Mattie Bledsoe. He is also survived by his sister, Mildred Franklin; his brothers, John (Pat) Simpson, Alden (Wanda) Simpson, Bobby (Kathy) Simpson, and Gary (Pam) Simpson; and his sisters-in-law, Carol Simpson and Nancy Simpson.

Roger instilled in his family the values of kindness, generosity, and hard work. He treasured time spent gardening, fishing, camping, and coaching Daniel Boone Little League Baseball. A devoted fan of University of Tennessee athletics, he rarely missed a chance to cheer on his Volunteers.

Known for his gentle spirit, Roger was always ready with a kind word or helping hand. He found joy in life's simple pleasures, including caring for his loyal dog, Scooter.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., and then a committal service afterward at Washington County Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Children's in Roger's memory.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
