Gloria Evans Obituary

JOHNSON CITY - Gloria Ann Haygood Evans, 76, Johnson City, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2026, at her residence.
She was born in Charlotte, NC and was a daughter of the late Floyd and Annie Cates Haygood.
Gloria was a faithful member of Rich Acres Freewill Baptist Church. She served as a supervisor at Johnson City Medical Center, where she was honored with the prestigious 5-Star Award. Over the years, she also worked at Terry's Barber Shop, Cherokee Barber Shop, and was employed at ETSU for more than 10 years.
Gloria was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger. To her coworkers-whom she dearly loved-she was affectionately known as "Dietary Mom" or "Sarge." She enjoyed working with flowers and tending to her yard, riding motorcycles, traveling, attending sporting events, and going to concerts.
Gloria found her greatest joy in helping, caring for, and loving everyone she came to know. Most of all, she cherished her loving husband, Jay.
In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her brother, Timoth Haygood.
Survivors include her husband of 12 years, James "Jay" Lawrence Evans; sister, Wanda Booth; brother, Floyd Haygood (Brenda); brother in law Bill Evans (Diane) and their children; sister in law, Linda Sue Ledford (John); step son, John Shortridge; nephews, Russel Haygood; niece, Nicole Haygood; special friends, Mike and Missy Phillips, Kassadie Phillips, Sherry Richardson, Linda Johnson, Debbie Glover, Terry Jones, Kim Holtsclaw; all of her previous employees and her church family.
The celebration of life service for Gloria will be conducted Wednesday, February 25, 2026, 7:00pm at Rich Acres Freewill Baptist Church, 1245 King Springs Rd. Johnson City, TN 37601, with Pastor Kenneth Grindstaff and Brett Jones, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00pm at the church.
In-lieu-of flowers the family requests donations be made to Rich Acres Freewill Baptist Church.

My condolences to Jay! Gloria was one of a kind. Always putting others before herself. But most of all she was a true example of a Christian woman. To me she was my stepmother and loved me for who I am. To say she´ll be missed is an understatement. I´ll miss our talks and her advice, but most of all the hugs she would give me and tell me everything would be alright!! Your redheaded stepchild forever!! Love you forever maw!! Tracie

Gloria was a blessing to know! She was so full of life and and helpful to everyone. I enjoyed the times that we shared together during church and senoir activities etc. She will always be remembered for a role model of the type of lady to be. I remember a Senior Trip I was blessed to accompany her on. She was such a bundle of joy and laughter. If ever there was an angel here on earth, she was one. She would bless you just by being around you with her presence. You will be missed at Rich Acres Freewill Baptist Church.
