JOHNSON CITY - Mr. Paul Bennett, 91, of Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Paul was born and raised in Bakersville, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Baxter and Willetta Canipe Bennett.
Paul enlisted in the United States Army when he was only sixteen years old. Serving his country in the United States Army was something he was very proud of. After he was honorably discharged, he worked as a licensed electrician and founded Bennett Electric Company, serving the Tri-Cities area for many years. He loved his work and took great pride in passing down his trade to his grandson, Anthony.
In his latter years, Paul talked about Heaven on a daily basis, and he spent much time in prayer for his family. He loved gospel music, and he was known for his generosity. He found solace in reading his Bible and watching televised sermons of his favorite preachers, the late Billy Graham, and the late Charles Stanley.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his sisters, Grace Witte, Nelda Baker, Muriel Laws, and Kay Johnson; his brother, Bill Bennett; his wife for many years and the mother of his children, Beryl Woody Bennett; his children, Paul Britton Bennett, and Sherry Diane Cosby.
Survivors include his daughter and caregiver, Paula Whitehead, of Johnson City, daughter Sharon Weems and her husband Jason of Johnson City; brothers, Arthur (Tommy) Bennett of Bakersville, Tim Bennett and his wife Brenda of Spruce Pine ; grandchildren, Daniel Anthony Cosby of Johnson City, Hallenna Graham and her husband Reed of Johnson City, and Madeline Weems of Johnson City; great-granddaughter, Allison Rose Graham, who was his pride and joy.
A graveside committal service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Mountain Home national Cemetery. Minister, family, and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 9:50 AM.
