Hubert Metcalf Obituary

ERWIN - Hubert "Junior" Metcalf, Jr. age 80, of Erwin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Christian Care Center of Unicoi County. He was a lifelong resident of Erwin and son of the late Hubert Metcalf, Sr. and Atlas Whitson Metcalf.

Junior retired from Nuclear Fuel Services where he worked for over forty years and was Vice President of the OCAW Union. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent.

Junior was an avid UT Vols football fan and he had been a season ticket holder since 1978. He was a loyal Unicoi County High School sports fan. Junior coached Erwin Little League Baseball for many years and he was a Pee Wee Football Coach for the Rock Creek Panthers. Junior enjoyed antique shopping and going to flea markets.

In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Metcalf and two sisters: Janice Adkins and Louise Edwards.

Junior leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of fifty-eight years, Brenda Harris Metcalf; two children: Randy Metcalf and wife, Tracie, of Erwin, Sherry Webb and husband, Ray, of Erwin; one brother, Jack Metcalf, of Erwin; four grandchildren: Cody Metcalf (Heather), Whitney Webb (Dylan Edwards), Tyler Metcalf and Haley Shelley (Jared); six great grandchildren: Regan Duty, Kyleigh Metcalf, Easton Metcalf, Raleigh Duty, Blakely Metcalf and Hendon Shelley; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The Metcalf family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the Webb residence, 134 Oakwood Lane, Erwin. Junior's funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Hammer officiating. Committal will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday in the Evergreen Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Cody Metcalf, Tyler Metcalf, Thomas Adkins, Ray Webb, Jared Shelley, David Metcalf, and Dylan Edwards. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 p.m. on Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
