BRISTOL, VA - Donald James Elseroad, age 88 of Bristol, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, in Kingsport, Tennessee and is now guarding the streets of Heaven with his fellow Marines that have passed on before him.
Don was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 30, 1935, to the late James E. Elseroad and Evelyn F. Weitzel. Staff Sergeant Elseroad was a retired United States Marine, having served his God, Country and Corps from 1953 to 1973. He was a Life Member of the Marine Corps League and a Life Member of the Military Order of Devil Dogs. He also retired from the Social Security Administration in Baltimore in 1990. Following that, he was a correctional office with the Maryland Division of Corrections for 8 years.
Don made his home in Bristol since 1998 and worked for 8 years as a Security Officer at the Virginia Department of Transportation before going into full time retirement in late 2007.
SSgt Elseroad is survived by a son, David A. Elseroad of Abingdon, Maryland.
Donald will be laid to rest in the Mountain Home National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the historical section of the cemetery no later than 12:50 P.M.
The Elseroad Family will receive friends at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home on Tuesday, after 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon.
