JOHNSON CITY Mr. James S. Stoots, age 92, of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2026.

James was born July 4, 1933, in Limestone to the late William Max Foster Stoots and Rose Bell Nelson.

He was a strong Christian.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. Stoots, and his daughter, Patrica Kay Roberts.

Survivors include son, Mike (Connie) Stoots, and Saylor Rose Stoots, granddaughter of Flag Pond; grandson, Shannon (Nikki) Stoots, and Evan and Damien, great-grandsons of Johnson City; grandson, Shaun (Tammy) Roberts; and great-grandchildren, Kaylei Catherman, Josh and Tyler Hicks of Kingsport.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 PM.

Interment services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Providence Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in James Stoots' memory to the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter (wcjcanimalshelter.org) to support their cat food pantry. Donations may be sent to 2101 W Walnut St, Johnson City, TN 37604.
