Mary Walrath Obituary

February 22, 1951 – February 3, 2024

PINEY FLATS - Mary Grace Walrath, beloved mother, stepmother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on Saturday, February 3 at age 72. Mary Grace was born in Winchester, KY to Frances Eugenia and Raymond Thomas Hill. Mary Grace shared a beautiful union of 18 years with her husband, Gary, who survives her. Their love and commitment were evident in their shared families. Mary Grace is survived by sons, John Meador, wife Carolyn, grandchildren Matilda and Oscar; son James Meador and son Chris Ellis; stepdaughters Kimberly Deeken, husband Justin, grandchildren Johnas, Epiphany, and Noah, stepdaughter Melody Walrath, grandchildren Morgan (Walrath) Ramirez, husband James, great grandson Sean and grandson, Gavin DeYoe ; sister Martha (Hill) Stotler, husband Mark.

Mary Grace graduated from Concord College in Athens, WV and earned Master's Degrees in social work from West Virginia University, and in storytelling from East Tennessee State University. She worked in social work for many years, but in later life pursued her passion for storytelling and history as a member of Jonesborough and Beaver Creek Storytelling Guilds. She also was education Director at Rocky Mount State Historic Site where she met her husband.

Mary Grace found strength and assurance through her faith and was active in the programs and choirs of many local Methodist churches.

Plans for a memorial service and celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
