Irene Depew Obituary

Irene Delores (Griffin) Depew, age 91, of West Virginia, formerly of Piney Flats, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, Virginia. Irene was born in Groseclose, Virginia to the late Walter Roy Griffin and Emma Gleaves (Broskie) Griffin. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Depew; a brother, Roy Edmond Griffin; a sister, Norman Edith Royston; and two sons, James Edward Depew and Larry Eugene Depew, Sr.
Irene retired from food manufacturing and was a member of New Life Christian Church in West Virginia. She enjoyed watching Evan Perry Stone each Sunday morning and loved to be outdoors, especially mowing her yard and gardening. Irene also loved making ceramics in her kiln and crocheting.
Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Deloris Carver of Bluff City; seven grandchildren, Tony, Chris, Joel, Heather, Sherry, Beverly, and Larry, Jr.; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a brother, Harry Griffin of Piney Flats; and a sister, Nadine Odom of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A celebration of Irene's life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Tetrick Funeral Home of Bluff City with Pastor Greg Loveless officiating. The family will receive friends between the hours of 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM in the chapel, prior to the service on Friday.
The graveside service will follow in the Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Blountville, Tennessee. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
