James Holt Obituary

James Royal Holt

December 29, 1929 -

October 26, 2025

James R. Holt passed away at age 95 on October 26, 2025. Jim was born on December 29, 1929 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty Keough Holt, his son Andy, his grandson Josh, his brother, Geoff and his sister Dixie. He is survived by his children Doug, Phyllis, Leah, Beth, Reba, Tim and Carmen; his grandchildren Steve (Larren), Jordan (Courtney), Jenn (Nick), Drew, Leah, Katie, and his great grandchildren Sarah, Lydian, Krewson, Eliza, Ben, Max, Reese, Oliver and Lydian.

Jim was in the trucking business for over 40 years. He was employed by ET&WNC in Johnson City for 17 years and loved reminiscing about his "ET" days and all the friends he made while working there. In retirement, Jim was a hospital volunteer and an avid golfer. He was a member of the Graysburg Golf Club where he continued to play golf until he was in his late eighties. He loved to travel and made lasting friendships wherever he went. He cherished the memories of his many trips and of those he met along the way. He will always be remembered for his kind and generous spirit and for his insight and wisdom that truly guided his children and grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of Smokey Mountain Hospice. Their kindness, compassion and friendship brightened his life. Donations to honor Jim may be made to Smokey Mountain Home Health and Hospice, 106 Ferrell Avenue Suite #1, Kingsport TN 37663. A celebration of life is planned for November 29, 2025.

Jim was always so cheerful and full of life! I had the honor or knowing him through my work and his volunteering at JCMC. What a life of service and joy he lived. Prayers for the family. Jim will be remembered by many.
