Gary S. Thomas

PINEY FLATS - On Thursday, November 6th, Gary S. Thomas of Piney Flats, TN joined his wife Elgie in heaven. Gary was born in Turtle Creek, PA, on April 29th, 1935.

After graduating from High School he attended Virginia Polytech Institute and then enlisted in the United States Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division. While serving he met and married his wife of 59 years.

After completing his time in the military Gary accepted a position with Westinghouse in their Nuclear Division. He worked as a Nuclear Engineer for 34 years. Throughout his career he lived in Greensburg, PA, Kenosha, WI, Rock Hill, SC, Dothan, AL, Topeka, KS and Homestead, FL.

Gary and Elgie enjoyed faithfully volunteering at a local nursing home in Greensburg, PA. Gary carried on as a lay speaker for the Methodist Church and spoke to many churches and schools. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt.

He is survived by his brother Paul Thomas, of St. Petersburg, Florida, his son, Glen Thomas and wife Barbara, of Binghamton NY, son, Gary R. Thomas and wife Georgia, of Port St. Lucie, FL, daughter Lisa Hill and husband David, of Gray TN. Gary is also survived by the following grandchildren, Adam, Andrea, Chad and Paula Hill,, Genna Dacanay, James Thomas and Jason Thomas.

A private service will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, TN for family and close friends.
