ERWIN - Zelda Cole Lingerfelt, age 80, of Erwin, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Erwin, Zelda is a daughter of the late Roscoe and Dullie (Crain) Edwards. She was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church where she was the Assistant Pianist, assisted with Vacation Bible School and taught Sunday School. She loved her flowers and gardening, singing and cooking. In addition to her parents, Zelda is preceded in death by her 1st husband, Kermit Buster Cole; one sister, Zetta Carter; four brothers: Jerry Edwards, Vestil Edwards, David Edwards and Cecil Edwards; and a grandson, Joseph Gregory Banks.
Zelda Cole Lingerfelt has left behind to cherish her memory: husband of 16 years, James Lawrence "JL" Lingerfelt; daughter, Cynthia Denise Hollett and husband, Todd; son, Kermit Dale Cole and wife, JoAnn; stepson, Nicholas Lingerfelt and wife, Ashleigh; stepdaughters: Sherri Lingerfelt (Lori) and Shellie Lingerfelt; grandsons: Nicholas Charles Banks, Tyler Dale Cole and Benjamin Cole Banks; granddaughters: Kendall Lingerfelt and Rory Lingerfelt; Several nieces and nephews.
The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Zelda Cole Lingerfelt in a funeral service to be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Pastor Brian Campbell and Pastor Jeff Autry will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by Michael Peterson and family. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 1:00 pm and will continue until service time on Wednesday at Valley Funeral Home. A graveside committal service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery following the funeral service. Those attending the committal service should meet at Valley Funeral Home by 2:30 pm on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Tyler Cole, Keith Cole, Nick Banks, Ben Banks, Ed Griffith, David Griffith, Steve Clouse, Tony Slemmons and Todd Hollett.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Zelda's name to Alzheimer's Tennessee, 2319 Browns Mille Road, Suite D6, Johnson City, TN 37604; or at alztennessee.org.
