Woodrow Painter Obituary

Woodrow Wilson Painter

June 10, 1941 -

December 5, 2025

CHUCKEY - Woodrow Wilson Painter, born on June 10, 1941, in Chuckey, Tennessee, passed from this life on December 5, 2025, after a brief illness at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Johnson City and was 84 years old.

Woodrow was the son of Fred and Alice Duncan Painter. He grew up in Chuckey, attended Lamar High School and also attended Mt. Carmel UMC. After completing his education, he went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. He was stationed in Panama during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

Following his military service, Woodrow built a career as a wiring installer and technician for the telecommunications industry. His work reflected a strong dedication to precision and reliability-qualities that marked much of his life. After many years of service in the field, he retired with the respect of colleagues and those who knew him professionally.

Woodrow had a lifelong passion for automobiles and NASCAR racing. He enjoyed watching races with fellow veterans at VFW Post 9724 in Jonesborough.

He is remembered by his family: brother, Roger Painter and wife Joyce; his sons Keith Painter and wife Lore, and Woodrow Painter Jr.; 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Alice Duncan Painter; sisters, Louise Painter Cansler and June Painter Landers; ex-wives, Ilse C. Painter and Rita Nolen Blevins.

The funeral service for Woodrow will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 12, 2025, at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with Dr. Rick Light officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 P.M.- 1:00 P.M. The graveside service and interment will follow in Washington County Memory Gardens.
