Wilma Glenn Snyder Bunting November 19, 1935- June 21, 2024
KINGSPORT - Wilma Glenn Snyder Bunting passed away June 21st, 2024 at her home in Kingsport, TN.
She was born in Butler, TN on November 19, 1935 to the late Glenn and Polly Snyder. She graduated from Carson-Newman College and received a M.A. from East Tennessee State University. She also did graduate work at Appalachian State University and the University of Tennessee.
She begun her teaching career in Miami, Florida and then after two years came to Kingsport. She retired from Dobyns-Bennett High School where she taught English. She had also taught Spanish and English at Robinson Jr High and one year in El Paso, Texas. In 1987 she was named by the Tennessee Education Association as one of nine Distinguished Classroom Teachers in the state.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport and a member of the Friendship Sunday School class. She had volunteered for several years at the Habitat Resale Store.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James Bunting, and her four sisters: Frances Kitchell, Eleanor Vannoy, Vida Bunting and husband Doran all of Mountain City and Norma Ransom of Butler, TN.
She is survived by her stepchildren, Jimmy Bunting of Mountain City TN, Donna Bunting of Johnson City and Paula Bowins of Clarksville, TN; several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by several special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be members of her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 200 W. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660 or to the charity of one's choice.
