JOHNSON CITY - Wilma (Ringley) Barley of Johnson City, TN entered into rest at her home at age 85 on Friday, September 1, 2023, after a long and full life. She was very loved and will be missed terribly.
Our dear mother, Wilma was born in Eidson, Tennessee on September 15, 1937. She was of the Baptist faith. She was married to the love of her life for 65 years (Larry Barley). Wilma was a loving, devoted wife, mother, aunt, and friend to her family and friends who she loved dearly and was always there when we needed her and was a force to be reckoned with. You have longed to be with Larry since the day he left us…. a love we all hope to have in life. She loved sitting on her front porch, and she used to make us pick our own switch when one of us needed a lesson in life. She made the best banana pudding, had a candy jar full of goodies and a cold coke always tasted better at her house. She was strong as an ox and loved playing cards…Deuces are wild now Nannie!
She was preceded in death by her husband Pierce Loyd "Larry" Barley; three sisters, Betty Ringley Turnmire, Bertha Ringley Peavler and Ruby Ringley Sizemore; five brothers, T. J. Ringley, Hugh Ray Ringley, Neal Ringley, Dale Ringley, and Fayne Ringley.
Those left to cherish Wilma's memory are her two daughters, Robin Barley Barnett and her husband Terry and Tammy Barley Whitson and her husband Mark; loving sister, Patsy Ringley; special niece, Lorie Ann Haggerty; four grandchildren, Chad Bacon and his wife Casey, Whittney Griffith and her husband Stacy, Lindsay Lane and her husband Kevin, and Courtney Taylor and her husband Michael; great-granddaughters, Brooklynn Taylor, Baylee Taylor, Rosalynn Lane, Lexi Whitson; great-grandsons, Brody Taylor, Silas Whitson; sister-in-law, Elsie Ringley and Lucy Mottern; family friends, Jack Shipley, Kristy Crigger, Audrey Kelsey, and Nonie Swartzenturber; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are welcome to attend the memorial service we are holding in her honor at Washington County Memory Gardens on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. if you would like to pay your respects. Family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 2:50 pm Wednesday.
Active pallbearers will be Mark Whitson, Tammy Barley Whitson, Whittney Griffith, Stacy Griffith, Lindsay Lane, Kevin Lane, Lorie Haggerty, and Chad Bacon. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Barnett, Jack Shipley, Courtney Taylor, and Michael Taylor.
The Barley family would like to send a special thank you to the Franklin Woods Community Hospital staff and the Amedisys Hospice team that took care of Wilma over the past year.
