Susan Whaley Obituary

JOHNSON CITY - Susan Carol Colvin Whaley, 74, of Johnson City, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at her home.

She was born in Damascus, Virginia, a daughter of the late William M. and Mabel Worley Colvin.

Susan graduated from Science Hill High School in 1967. She and her husband, Stephen W. Whaley, began 53 years of marriage on January 3rd of 1970, celebrating the birth of their sons later that year. The family lived in Lawton, Oklahoma, while her husband was stationed there with the U. S. Army. Once he had finished his service, they moved home to Johnson City to raise their family.

Spending time with those she loved was important to Susan. She liked following her boys to any and every baseball game, driving through the mountains together, or going on trips to Myrtle Beach. She enjoyed cooking and reading, studying her bible in particular; she celebrated her life as a Christian, and was a founding member of Delivering Hope Tabernacle in Johnson City.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three siblings: Billie Greene, Betty Roberts, and Dave Colvin.

Alongside her husband, Susan is survived by: two sons, Steve Whaley and wife Leah of Shawnee, OK, Tony Whaley and wife Melissa of Tecumseh, OK; five siblings, Joe Colvin, Rose Ann Woods, Barbara Williams, William Colvin, and Mike Colvin; grandchildren, Logan & Austin Hudson, Cameron Whaley & Karleigh Peltier, Addy Lack, Tara Lack, Jackson Whaley, Lauren Whaley, Samantha & Tristan Burnett, Sydney Whaley & Cale Ashcraft, and Anthony Whaley; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Riley, Atticus, and Abel.

A funeral service will be held for Susan Whaley at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, January 10, 2023, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, with the chapel opening at 12:00 PM for seating. Her family will lay her to rest at Mountain Home National Cemetery in a private ceremony.
