JOHNSON CITY - Stanley Hill, 87, Johnson City, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Lakebridge, A Waters Community.
Stanley was born in Unicoi and was a son of the late Earl and Millie Stanley Hill.
Stanley was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Unicoi Freewill Baptist Church. Stanley was also a member of the Unicoi Masonic Lodge #681 F&AM and a Shriner at the Jericho Temple.
He was a natural salesperson. Stanley enjoyed working in sales because he loved people and talking with them. He also loved to fish and listen to music. But Stanley was most passionate about his family, especially his grandchildren. To them he was "Papaw", and he will truly be missed.
In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Roma Dean Davis Hill; son, Jim Hill; daughters, Patty Ward, Cindy Stewart (Joe); grandchildren, Emily, Daniel (Jessica), Carly (Gavin), Nathan (Haley); 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Lennie Woodby, Lurlia Snapp, Thelma Corby (Harold), Dean Hill (Rebecca); sisters-in-law; Teresa Yercheck, Rometa Miller; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Carl Little and Tony Peterson.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday, June 2, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastor Dexter Brummitt and Pastor John Stockton, officiating. The graveside committal service will follow in Davis-Banks Cemetery in Limestone Cove. Pallbearers will be Nathan Derry, Daniel McKinney, Gavin Whitson, Johnny Salinas, Carl Little, Tim Miller, Jamie McKinney. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Hankle, Gary Larinsen, Bill Avis, Jerry Pilgram, Charlie Davis, and Tim Derry.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00-2:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
In-lieu-of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society at donate.cancer.org.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center and Lakebridge for their wonderful care of Stanley during this time.
