On January 16th, 2024, Sheila Tallent McInturf went to be with her Lord and Savior. Sheila was born on August 25th, 1949, in Athens, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. John B., and Beatrice Williams Tallent and a great-grandson, Memphis Ferguson. She was a graduate of University School at East Tennessee State University and a retired Executive Assistant to the Department Director of Microbiology at the ETSU School of Medicine.
She is survived by her husband Dr. Richard McInturf of the home, as well as daughters Christine Smith Rice and Kellie Smith of Johnson City, and Karen Smith Sells of Memphis. Her only sister, Shonnie Long lives in Johnson City, where they grew up, with her husband Ray. Her stepmother, Joyce Tallent, lives in Johnson City. Three special cousins, Jerry Roberts and Jim Weitzel live in Johnson City, and Morris Williams, Jr. resides in Eaton, Md. Her precious grandchildren, Caleb Scalf, Cayce Ferguson, Andrew Loyd, Denver Smith, Sadie Sells, Elijah Sells. Mason Eaton, and Madalynn Eaton, as well great-grandchildren, Jayce and Draya brought constant joy to Sheila's life.
She and Rick had recently moved to their beautiful home in Holden Beach, NC, fulfilling a 30-year dream. She enjoyed visiting the ocean, decorating, and playing hostess to family gatherings.
A memorial service is planned for February 8, 2024, at the Tetrick Funeral Services, 3001 People Street, Johnson City, Tn. The service will begin at 5:00 p.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the Holden Beach Community Alliance to continue the work of preserving the history of her beautiful island.
