Sara Nan "Sissy" Byrd May 14, 1941- June 1, 2024
JONESBOROUGH - Sara Nan "Sissy" Byrd passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Johnson City Medical Center after a brief period of declining health. Sissy was born on May 14, 1941, to Dr. George A. Byrd and Iva Seaton Byrd. She graduated from Jonesborough High School in 1959 and attended Lincoln Memorial University, East Tennessee State University, and Steed College. She was employed by the Johnson City Dental Lab where she made many acquaintances in the community. Sissy was predeceased by her parents and brother-in-law, Edward Snapp. Surviving are her sister Georgie Byrd Snapp, niece Amy Snapp Bryant (Patrick), and great niece Abigail Bryant all of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina.
Sissy was a long-time member of Jonesborough Presbyterian Church, a life-long loyal Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers fan, and a resident of Jonesborough her entire life. She remained close to her high school classmates and enjoyed their monthly get-togethers and class reunions. Two of the highlights of her life were attending a Los Angeles Dodgers game and seeing Elvis Presley perform in concert.
Sissy was proud to tell anyone who met her that she was a Taurus and she exhibited many of those traits. She enjoyed the company of others who had similar interests and loved to make people laugh. She was even voted by her classmates for the senior superlative of best personality.
She will be remembered for her love of life and her loyalty and generosity to those she loved. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all who supported her in so many ways as her needs increased in recent years, especially Sally Hicks and Ida Shurr.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Jonesborough Presbyterian Church at 11:00 am with Pastor Allen Huff officiating. The family invites you to attend a reception in the fellowship hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in her memory to Jonesborough Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choosing.
