JONESBOROUGH - Ruth E. Whitson, 89, Jonesborough went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Mitchell County, North Carolina and was a daughter of the late Dock Carver and Etta Davis Carver. Ruth was a longtime member of the Happy Valley Church of Jesus Christ (now Word of Life Church). She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Whitson in 1997; two brothers, Howard and Johnny Carver; a sister, Thelma Smith.
Survivors include two sons, J.D. Whitson and wife, Barbara of Gray and Tom Whitson and wife, SuEllen of Unicoi; two sisters, Charlene Cook and Sue Karner and husband, Willis all of Maryland; grandchildren, Whitney Whitson Wolfe and husband, Zach of Denver, CO, Jennifer Johnson and husband, Erik of Gray and Julie Murray and husband, Matthew of Gray; great-grandchildren, Grace Murray, Abbie Johnson and William Johnson; also several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Ruth will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, July 17, 2023 in the Highland Church Cemetery, 485 Highland Church Road, Johnson City, TN 37615 with Pastor Donny Reagan officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. For those attending you are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM. There will be no formal visitation.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions in her name be made to the Missionary Fund at Word of Life Church, 490 Okolona Road, Johnson City, TN 37601.
