Russell H. Benard September 14, 1943 - July 23, 2024
Russell H. Benard, born on September 14, 1943, in Brownsville, Tennessee, to the late Howard Jetson Benard and Bessie Mae Privitte Benard, passed away leaving behind a legacy of dedication and love. Mr. Benard worked for CSX for 44 years and retired as the General Foreman at the Erwin yard. Where his leadership and commitment were highly valued. In addition to his parents, Russell is preceded in death by his siblings: Jimmie Benard, Peggie Sencebaugh, George Benard, and Betty Temple.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Hutto Benard, to whom he was married for 50 years; his daughter, Heather Benard Conner (Ricky); and his son, Matthew "Justin" Benard (Hollie). His cherished grandchildren, Emalee Benard, Kaylee Benard, Baylee Benard, Chloe Conner, and Clinton Conner will miss him dearly, along with his beloved little dog, Olivia.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Annette Hutto Brown; his sister, Barbara Seaton (Tim); his brother, Jackie Benard (Sun Hwa); his sister, Ruby Ford; and his brother-in-law, Jonathan "Mike" Hutto (Leslie). He leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Russell was a devoted husband and father who always put his family first. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and watching anything sports related. He adored his grandchildren and loved watching them in all their sports, always cheering them on. Russell deeply loved his family and cherished celebrating all birthdays and special events and a good ball game!
The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Cynthia Partain at HMG for the loving and wonderful care she provided. Along with many special friends including Gene and Annette Garland, and all his friends from the softball and baseball fields throughout the years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Russell's life was marked by his dedication to his family, friends, and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend an open invitation for friends and family of Russell H. Benard to gather at his home on Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 1pm-4pm to share in memories and celebrate his life.
