Mr. Roy R. Bell

Mr. Roy R. Bell, 89, Jonesborough passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025 at his residence with his loving family at his side. He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a son of the late Virgil and Ruth Bright Bell. Roy was a veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked as an Electrician by trade. Roy was a member of Midway Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved carpentry, bee-keeping, swimming and just helping others. Roy loved the Lord, which showed in all he did. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debi Star Bell; three sisters, Mary Sue McMara, Bettie Leona Privette and Katherine Laughrun. Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Mary E. Brown Bell: his children, Gary Bell and wife, Rebecca and Alinda Vick and husband, Tommy; a sister, Bettie Privette; grandchildren, Dusty Debusk, Andy Bell and wife, Ashley, Erica S. Bell and Chris, Seth Bell and wife, Brianna, Adam West, Deanna West and Phil and Luke Tinds; great-grandchildren, Hannah Bell, Annaleah West, Owen West and Weston Ridge Bell; a blessed friend, Benny West; also many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Roy will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday, May 27, 2025 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Bill Taylor and Rev. Josh Grizzle officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 28, 2025 in the Philadelphia Community Cemetery, 1149 Corby Bridge Road, Chuckey, TN 37641. Pallbearers will be Scott Reaves, Adam West, Andy Bell, Chris Brumit, Shannon Brown, Jamie Brooks, Dawson Callahan and Kaleb Callahan; honorary pallbearers will be Benny West and Tommy Vick. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM. The family would like to thank Heather Mitchell, Ballad Hospice, Home Instead caregivers and the VA Home Visit Team for the wonderful and compassionate care they all provided.
