Robert Porter Obituary

Robert Ray Porter

1960 - 2023

Taylorsville, UT-Robert Ray Porter, 62, passed away at home on March 13th. He was born on May 26th, 1960, to Gaylon Leon Porter and Nancy Lynn Porter. He graduated from Cottonwood High School and studied at the University of Utah.

As a child, he spent endless summers boating, riding motorcycles, hunting, four wheeling and camping with his family. He was part of the Boy Scouts of America earning his Eagle Scout.

He met his former spouse in his 20's and they were married for 26 years. He continued his childhood experiences with his own family. He found joy in teaching all his kids how to fix their cars and sharing his passions with them. Robert's dedication to his family was unwavering, and he always put others before himself.

He was always up for an adventure, whether it was fishing, four wheeling, boating, hiking, or attending Snowbird concerts. He was known as MacGyver, Mr. Fix it, and Superman to many. He had more tools/gear than Home Depot and could fix anything with his hands. He had a magnetic personality, natural charisma and brought joy to everyone he met. His hardworking nature and strong work ethic were evident in everything he did, and he inspired others to follow in his footsteps.

He is survived by his children Whitney Smith, Tiffany Webster (Tofiq), Kylee Eckland (Nathan), Codey Porter, and R. Wyatt Porter (Mariah); his former wife Robyn Mattson (Jay); his mother Nancy Reich (Roy); his siblings Randy Porter, Gary Porter (Karyn), and Cindy Day (Christopher). His memory lives on through his grandchildren Peyton, Rhyker, Joycelyn, Tenley, Jameson, Ezra, Zeke, Bodi, and Ellisyn. He is preceded in death by his father Gaylon Leon Porter.

Robert Ray Porter lived his life to the fullest, and his memory will always be cherished by those who knew and loved him. Robert's children and grandchildren were his greatest achievements in life, and he will always be their hero and guide, even in his absence.

A celebration of life will be held on 04/02/2023 from 11am-1pm at The Daybreak Garden House located at 11150 Tydeman Way in South Jordan, UT.

I met Rob one day at my cousins home (Don and Eric Alstrup), and we hit it off and started dating! Rob was a gregarious, fun-loving, mischievous, and sweet boyfriend whom I had the pleasure of dating in the late 70´s through the early 80´s. The pic is from an Olympus HS formal dance & he looks so handsome in his tux! I have many fond memories doing things with Rob; Bear Lake outings, boating, water skiing, target shooting, riding in his old fashioned truck, bbq in his back yard, giving his Gma Porter hair cuts & perms, going to my first concert ( Boston), and many, many more!
I hope Robs family and friends find peace and comfort knowing he´s no longer in pain... he´s prob found a beautiful lake to water-ski on and of course doing tricks and jumps and enjoying himself!
Rest well Rob, you will always be in my heart!

I knew Rob from the late 70's. My cousins (Donald and Eric Alstrup) went to Cottonwood with him and he was a good friend of theirs. I remember his gregariousness, beautiful smile, and amazing truck he rode around in. He was very kind to everyone. I wish his family comfort during their loss.
