Robert Peebles Obituary

Robert "Bob" Peebles

April 22, 2025

JOHNSON CITY - Robert "Bob" Peebles, 92, of Johnson City, TN, passed away early Tuesday morning at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton, TN. Born and raised in Petersburg, VA. He joined the Air Force after graduation from high school where he served in Korea. After four years in the service, he went to Virginia Polytechnical Institute where he earned a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. Bob then moved with his young family to Johnson City where he began his 30-plus years with General Shale Brick. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Johnson City, serving in multiple capacities. Bob was actively involved with Interfaith Hospitality and Meals on Wheels. He was always willing to help people with anything that was needed; could fix anything; possessed an incredible mechanical mind and loved to camp. Bob and Athena enjoyed traveling across the country and Asia. He most treasured playing with, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Walworth and Elizabeth Peebles; brothers, Walworth Peebles, Jr. (Evelyn); Bill Peebles and sister, Mary Anne Reid.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Athena; children, Kendyl B. Peebles (Debra), T. Shawn Peebles (Anna) and Andrew S. Peebles (Christie); nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Spring Street, Johnson City. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Jodie Ihfe and Rev. Betty Furches.

The family would like to extend special thanks to American House and all his adopted girls. They would also like to thank the staff at Sycamore Shoals Hospital for their special and tender care in Bob's final days.

If Robert "Bob" was any thing like the man his son, Shawn is; the world was truly blessed. Praying for peace that surpasses all our understanding for Shawn, Anna, Athena and all the Peebles' family and friends along with fond memories for the days ahead.
