CW2 (Ret.) Robert "Bob" Murphy, Sr. April 4, 2024 CW2 (Ret) Robert "Bob" Murphy Sr. passed away Thursday April 4, 2024 at Hillview Health Center. He was the son of the late Albert Franklin Murphy and Katherine Murphy of Knoxville, TN. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ursula S. Murphy for 25 years and his second wife of 35 years Wynona "Donnie" Murphy (Wallace)
Bob served 35 years in the Military. He served in the Air Force, Army reserve, and the Army National Guard. He served several terms as president, board member and as a coach for the Carter County Boys Club, president of Tennesse Collectors Associaton, he was a former member of the Elizabethton Kiwanis Club, Elizabethton American Legion, and the Elks Lodge. He owned and operated two collection agencies, General Collection Agency and Johnson City Collection Agency for many years. Bob loved antiques, auctions, collectibles, and traveling. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are three sons; Robert "Robby" Murphy Jr. (Sandy), Kenneth "Butch" Murphy (Jennifer), David "Thumper" Murphy; two daughters, Judy Britton and Sandra Hoffman both of Granite City, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Jesse, Katie, Evan, Halea, Kellen, Eli and Lucas. Several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a special brother-in-law Romley Wallace and family; a daughter-in-law Karen Murphy; a special childhood friend and business partner, Leon Bell of Greeneville, Tennessee; as well as several other friends and family members
The family would like to thank the nurses at Franklin Woods Community Hospital and the nurses at Hillview Health Center for their loving care during his illness.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may donate to The Carter County Humane Society or the Carter County Boys Club
