Richard Williams Obituary

II Timothy 4: 7-8

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

Mr. Richard (Toad) Williams, age 71, passed away suddenly Thursday, June 23, 2023.

Mr. Williams was born February 20, 1952, to the late Raymond (Toad) and Betty Williams in Erwin, TN.

Richard was in the last graduating class from Lamar School in 1971 and graduated ETSU where he was manager of sports equipment for many years.

He moved to Atlanta for a while and returned to TN to help take care of family. He was a talented singer, sang in gospel groups, and led music at Bethel Church of Christ where he was a lifetime member and loved by all. Singing about Jesus Christ in area churches was his passion. He loved gospel music and could tell you about the author and history of most church hymns and Gaither music.

Left to cherish his memory is brother, Tom (Etta Lea), sister, Carol, nieces and nephews Angie, Tommy, Chris, and Anthony and other great nieces and nephews. His best friends, Ronnie Laws and Uncle Jack Keplinger, and a host of friends from all over the US.

A celebration of life is planned for 3:00 PM, Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Bethel Church of Christ, Jonesborough.

In lieu of flowers, donations to help with funeral expenses are appreciated. Please send them to: Bethel Church of Christ, 234 Tommy Campbell Road, Jonesborough, TN 37659 in memory of Richard Williams.

What a nice man, the very first time I met him was Aug 1987. I was a skinny freshman and a little overwhelmed. I was introduced to him and called him Mr. Williams he insisted that I call him Richard like everyone else. This was hard for me to get use to because of how I was raised to respect your elders. So he corrected me every time I did not call him Richard. He allow me to be comfortable in a new environment and always treated me with great respect. I am happy to know he is celebrating life with our Lord Jesus. He made a mark in my life.
