Richard Taylor Obituary

Richard Taylor

June 18, 1943 -

May 8, 2025

GRAY - Richard Taylor, age 81, Gray, Tennessee was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 8, 2025. A man of deep faith, gentle strength, and steadfast love for his family, Richard passed peacefully surrounded by those who love him.

He was born on June 18, 1943 to the late Robert and Dorothy Ferguson Taylor. He committed his life to Christ at an early age and faithfully followed God's calling throughout his life. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from East Tennessee State University and began his professional career at Eastman Chemical Company where he applied his education and strong work ethic.

Richard was later called into the ministry while attending Oak Grove Baptist Church. He answered that call with his whole heart and went on to serve as the pastor of Union Baptist Church and Maranatha Baptist Church for 18 years. His ministry was marked by humility, compassion, and a deep love for teaching the word of God. After retiring from pastoral ministry, Richard founded CLW Delivery and led the company as CEO until 2020, continuing to live out his values of integrity and service in the business world.

He is survived by his three children: Clint Taylor (Kim), Leslie Taylor, and Wes Taylor (Jennifer); four beloved granddaughters, Madison Taylor Colley (Sebastion), Abbie Taylor, Fallon Taylor, and Finlee Taylor. He also leaves behind his former wife of 43 years, Anita Hodges Taylor, whose enduring friendship and shared love for their family remained steady; his former mother-in-law, Palma Hodges; former sister-in-law, Sherri White (Jeff), along with many other extended family members and friends who loved and cherished him.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Taylor; brother, Wayne Taylor; sister, Jean Taylor and father-in-law, Jackie Hodges.

Outside of work and ministry, Richard enjoyed playing golf and spending time outdoors. But above all, his greatest joy was watching each of his granddaughters grow up, compete in sports, and just being their Poppy. He was their biggest fan-supportive, encouraging, and endlessly proud of each of them and all they have accomplished.

Richard will be remembered for his quiet strength, faithful leadership and the deep love he held for his family, his church, and his Lord. His life was a testimony to the power of obedience, service, and grace. He leaves behind a legacy that will live on through his family and all who were blessed to know him.

The funeral service for Richard will be conducted Monday, May 12, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. from the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City with Dr. Phil Hoskins and Pastor Roy Yelton officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The graveside committal service will be held at a later date in Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Johnny Dillow, Jeff White, Dave Peaks, Spenser White, Steve Mills, Travis Mains, Wes Morefield and Johnny Rojas.

Richard was a Special Blessing to me. We became friends at Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. The LORD impressed me to share a book about Daniel Nash and a DVD Not For Sale preached by Bro. Ralph Sexton Jr. and it touched his heart and we started Praying for my family and for his family. Richard was a Special Person who GOD had Richard pass into my Life and I will never forget his smile and hugs and saying I´m Praying for your family and I would tell him I´m Praying for your family too!
