JOHNSON CITY - Richard Wilmoth Farmer, 72, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2023, in the Johnson City Medical Center.
Born in Chattanooga, Rick was the son of the late Clelice Ray Farmer and Frank W. Farmer. After graduating from Brainerd High School, he married his beloved wife Deborah Dayton Farmer in 1973, later moving to Johnson City in 1977. Here, they made their home and raised their family.
Rick was a medical supply salesman and retired from Cardinal Health in 2013. He loved his job, and it was ideal for him because he loved to talk to people. He never met a stranger, and anytime he went anywhere you could find him talking to someone. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was humble and always put his family first. He was a huge University of Tennessee fan, enduring constant disappointment. The best day of his life, other than when his children were born, was the day he received a twenty-year platinum pass for both Dollywood and Splash Country from Dolly Parton herself.
Survivors include Debbie, his wife of fifty years; son, Brent Farmer, and his wife Rachel; three daughters, Meghan Daniel and husband Nathan, Amy Buselmeier and husband Billy, and Rachel Laycock and husband Justin; nine grandchildren, Noah Farmer, Emma Farmer, Ellie Farmer, Isaac Daniel, Mason Daniel, Chloe Laycock, Abbi Laycock, Caitlin Laycock, and Evelyn Buselmeier.
The family of Richard Farmer will receive friends from 12PM to 1pm on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Central Church of Christ, 2722 E. Oakland Avenue, Johnson City. The funeral service will follow at 1pm with Minister Tim Hall officiating. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 2pm at Monte Vista Memorial Park, 1900 E. Oakland Avenue, Johnson City. Active pallbearers will be family members Brent Farmer, Noah Farmer, Nathan Daniel, Isaac Daniel, Billy Buselmeier and Justin Laycock.
