Renee Sherer Obituary

Renee Sherer

April 12, 2026

Renee Clark Sherer, age 75, of St. Marys, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida. Renee was born on April 22, 1950, to Greeley and Julia Clark of Johnson City, Tennessee. She grew up in Johnson City and graduated from Science Hill High School in 1968. Renee attended Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina for two years, and graduated from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.

Renee married Fred Johnson in 1971, and they raised two boys, Brian and Tyler, in Knoxville, Tennessee. She never tired of the many sporting events along the way and was extremely proud of her two sons' professional and personal successes. Renee spent her 27-year career as an educator teaching third grade at Cedar Bluff Elementary, where she was beloved by students and colleagues alike. Divorced in 2002, Renee remarried Charles "Ted" Sherer in 2006 on her birthday. They enjoyed many happy years traveling and spending time with their kids and grandkids. In 2015, they moved to Osprey Cove in St. Marys, where Renee made many wonderful friendships, played cards and bunco, visited the beach often, and enjoyed watching her grandchildren learn to swim in her pool.

Renee was a beloved wife, friend, mother, and "Nay Nay," who will be greatly missed and forever remembered. She was preceded in death by her parents, Greeley and Julia Clark. She is survived by her husband, Ted; her sons, Dr. Brian Lacy Johnson (Amanda) of Asheville and Tyler Lansden Johnson (Mary) of Chapel Hill; grandchildren Asher, Clara, Sarah, Ethan, and Hailey; stepdaughters Teal Alsaleh (Ali) of Seattle and Brynn Whitworth (Caleb) of Knoxville; and grandsons Ben, River, and Hudson.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, and Renee's close friends in Osprey Cove who supported her like family in the final years of her life. Funeral services will be private with immediate family present. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cedar Bluff Elementary School Library. Checks may be made payable to Cedar Bluff Elementary and mailed to 705 North Cedar Bluff Road, Knoxville, TN 37923. Please note "Library - In Memory of Renee Sherer (Mrs. Johnson)" on the check or in an accompanying note.
