Our beloved Dr. Priyam Chaudhary passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2023 at her home. We are grieving the loss of our dear daughter, sister, colleague and friend. She was a brilliant intensive care pediatrician, an intelligent, kind and beautiful soul, and a cherished member of the community.
Priyam was born to Dr. Neelkant and Dr. Anita Chaudhary in Shapur, India, where she grew up with her baby brother Himanshu, with whom she attended Wynberg-Allen Boarding School in Mussoorie. Surrounded by the beautiful mountains at school, she made countless friends for life and was able to impress her teachers and classmates with her sharp mind and dedication.
As an excellent student, Priyam received a bachelor's degree from Saint Leo University, graduating cum laude, and a Doctor of Medicine from Ross University. She excelled in everything she did and received accolades like the Excellence Award for Best Research Project and the Sister Carol Keehan Award for the Best Resident.
After discovering her love and gift for helping children, she began her Pediatric Residency at the Sacred Heart Children's Hospital in Pensacola, FL, followed by her Pediatric Intensive Care Fellowship as well as the Infant/Pediatric Severe Chronic Lung Disease Fellowship at Children's Healthcare at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
After her fellowship, she moved to Johnson City in April 2020 and made an incredible difference for the children at Niswonger Children's Hospital. She found a home and a second family here and never failed to give her absolute heart and soul to every single patient. Her talent and expertise left a mark on everyone who had the honor to work with her.
Priyam is now reunited with her grandparents, Bauji, Amma, Pitajii and Bebe; her precious dog Nala; and most importantly with her dad Neelkant, with whom she shared a very special bond.
Priyam made deep connections with people everywhere she went and impacted all of us in a very special way. She will be missed dearly by her mother Anita, her brother Himanshu and his wife Marie, by her dogs Peanut and Pasha, her many family members back home in India and by countless friends and colleagues whose lives she has touched. Everyone who had the privilege to meet Priyam will continue to keep her in their heart and memory and remember her kind smile, her valuable pieces of advice, and her beautiful, positive spirit.
