JOHNSON CITY - Patricia Pitts Toohey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, passed away on November 8, 2023, in Johnson City, Tennessee. She was born on January 1, 1945, in Radford, Virginia, to Edward Jackson and Mary Ann Pitts. Patricia, known to her loved ones as Patti, spent the majority of her life in Johnson City.
Patti was a precious soul who could best be described as a sweet, kind, full of life kind of person. Her smile had the ability to light up any room she entered, and she was always the life of the party. Loving, taking care of, and making memories with her family was what made her most happy. Patti's strong faith and love for Jesus were a testament to all those around her. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.
She graduated from Science Hill High School in 1963 and attended East Tennessee State University. Patti met and later married the love of her life, Bill Toohey, in May of 1966. They were blessed with two daughters who they dedicated the next two decades to raising. Patti worked as an executive assistant at East Tennessee State University and retired in 2005 following 25 years of faithful service.
Patti was a long-standing member of First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City for 58 years and later was a member of First Christian Church for 20 years.
Patti is survived by her loving husband, Bill Toohey, her daughter Karen Toohey Loyd, son-in-law Steve Loyd, daughter Kim Toohey Reid, son-in-law Arthur Reid, her grandchildren: Heath Loyd (spouse Lara), Hayley Loyd Fooshee (spouse Sterling), Jackson Reid (spouse Bella), Jamison Reid Trammell (spouse Trey), and Josi Reid, her great-grandchildren: Blakely Reid and Cecilia Loyd, her two brothers and sisters-in-law Jack and Patti Pitts and Mike and Cheryl Pitts, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edward Jackson and Mary Ann Pitts, as well as her sister Janice Pitts Randolph.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the amazing caregivers, nurses, and doctors who cared for, supported, and encouraged Patti over the last 18+ years. They extend special gratitude to Ashley, Sharon, Bedar, Geraldine, Abby, Mary, Josh, Bryan, Oliver, Eric, Mike and Stevie for their exceptional care, concern, and love.

To the Family: Please accept my sincere condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I worked for Patti in the Mgmt/Mktg dept as a student worker from freshman to senior year. She was always so encouraging to me and gave me wonderfully correct advice. I once had an important interview and did not have a business suit to wear to it. She knew this and let me borrow one of hers for the day. I have never forgotten that and her thoughtfulness. I always greatly enjoyed her sharing her family stories with me and esp. the latest funny moments regarding Heath and Jack (who were toddlers at the time). Whenever she spoke of her family, she was always smiling and beaming with joy. She has always had a special place in my heart and I have shared memories of her with my children over the years.
