Nellie McEwen Obituary

Nellie June Smith McEwen April 16, 2024

JOHNSON CITY - Nellie June Smith McEwen, age 96, of Johnson City, Tennessee, formerly of Butler, Tennessee (where she spent most of her life) went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at the Christian Assisted Living Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. June was born in Fish Springs to the late Raud and Nellie Smith. In addition to her parents, June was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Ralph Walter McEwen in 2016; and five sisters.

June was a wonderful mother, granny, neighbor, friend, aunt and homemaker. She was a member of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church in Butler and loved her church and enjoyed studying her Bible and singing in the choir. June loved working on her farm and was a very hard worker. She enjoyed working in her garden and her flowers, canning, crocheting, cooking, her farm animals and pets, collecting owls and spending time with her family. June was a very generous and giving lady and had worked for several years at Mountain City Glove Manufacturing.

Those left to cherish and remember June include her daughter, Linda (Harold) Cole of Johnson City; her grandchild, Rebecca (Rusty) Allen of Raleigh, NC; two great grandchildren, Chandler and Madison Cole; her special nieces, Pat, Nelda, Joy and Lou; her nephews, Steve and Don; and her special friends, Marcella Isaacs, Carolyn Lyon, and Junior McQueen.

A celebration of June's life will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Saturday, April 20, 2024 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Reverend Maurice Widner officiating. The family will receive friends between the hours of 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Saturday. The family would like to invite friends and family to share memories of "June Bug" following the Celebration of Life Service.

A private graveside service will be conducted at a later time at Happy Valley Memorial Park.
