ELIZABETHTON - Nell Vivian Pealer Hyder, 96, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023 in the Hermitage Health Center. She was born in Watauga, on December 2, 1926 to the late Mitchell & Helen Scott Pealer. Nell was a graduate of Mary-Hughes High School and East Tennessee State College with a degree in Education. She was a retired Teacher from Elizabethton High School. She loved to read and bake. She was a member of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Marie Kerley, Mattie Boyd, Dean Curde, Clata Fisher, Margie Trent and Mitty Lovelace and two brothers, Roy & Bruce Pealer.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Lowell Hyder; two sons, Marty Hyder and Johnny Burleson; one daughter, Judy Diaz; five grandchildren, Candy Johnson, Rick Burleson, Johnny Burleson, Jr., Joe Diaz and Ashley Blevins; eight great-grandchildren, Nicole Andes, Haley & Macey Burleson, Isaac Johnson, Hanley, Elisha, Abel and Piper Diaz; one great-great-grandchild, Harper Andes and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2023 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Section) with Dr. James Richardson officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Johnny Burleson, Jr., Rick Burleson, Joe Diaz, Hanley Diaz, Isaac Johnson and Danny Trent. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday prior to the graveside service. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday. Mrs Hyder was my high school English Teacher . She was the best. I was one of her pets. She helped me out in school so much. Great English Teacher. My sympathies go out to her family.
