Michael Morrow Obituary

Michael Morrow

August 24, 1983 -

February 28, 2025

Michael Curtis Morrow, 41, of Jacksonville, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 28th, 2025. He was an exceptional son, brother, father, partner, and friend. He will always be remembered for his willingness to help others; his fun-loving, goofy personality; his resilience; and his bravery.

Born on August 24th, 1983, Michael was the son of Glenn and Debbie Morrow and the eldest of six children. He was family-oriented with many friends. He never missed a birthday or holiday and kept practically every greeting card ever sent to him. Michael has been described as "somewhere between fearless and reckless." He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with several different groups, skydiving, and pushing life to the limit, and it was his brave and daring spirit that contributed to his remarkably successful military career.

Michael was proud to serve his country as a marine and as a contractor for the department of defense and the CIA. He considered his service to be his greatest accomplishment. Michael's bravery and selflessness will forever mark his love of country, home, and family.

For over 14 years, Michael has built a life with his partner, Cindy Spencer. The two shared a relationship full of love and care and supported each other through thick and thin.

Michael is survived by his beloved life partner, Cindy Spencer; his parents, Glenn and Debbie Morrow; his siblings, Courtney, Anthony, Jennifer, Aiden, and Jordan, as well as Kimberly, Amy, Regina, and Jeremy; his son, Logan Bennett; his awesome Grammie, Edith Schultz; and his dear friends, Lewis and Jason, along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a multitude of friends who loved him dearly.

A service will be held for friends and family this Friday, March 7th, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Saunders Funeral Home in Jacksonville, NC. Michael will be laid to rest in Johnson City, TN at the Mountain Home VA Cemetery (tentatively scheduled for Wednesday).

In lieu of flowers, please carry the torch of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and "honor the dead by helping the living."

I met then, Corporal Morrow, in September 2006 at the School of Infantry in Camp Geiger. He was an instructor and I was fresh out of boot camp. He introduced himself to the platoon on day 1. Running up and down the middle of the squad bay with a command presence 10 times greater than his stature! Shortly (no pun intended) after, Cpl. Morrow and I were walking some where on base together. He had dropped his instructor "character´ and spoke to me like we were old buddies. As a new Marine, this was strange but very cool. He was very well liked by all of the new Marines and training cadre. At the end of the training cycle and before the newly trained Marines went off to their new units, SOI command staff hosted the "Gong Show." It was an opportunity for the young Marines to "roast" their instructors - usually by doing impressions. I had purchased a toddler´s shirt from the PX that said "Little Marine, Big Attitude" on the front. I had all of the Marines in Cpl. Morrow´s platoon sign it. I presented the shirt to Cpl. Morrow at the Gong Show and the room erupted with laughter, including Cpl. Morrow. I´ve thought about him over the years and wondered where life had taken him. He left a lasting impression on me. Rest in peace my friend and God bless your family. Thank you for being a great example for a young Marine so long ago.
