I met then, Corporal Morrow, in September 2006 at the School of Infantry in Camp Geiger. He was an instructor and I was fresh out of boot camp. He introduced himself to the platoon on day 1. Running up and down the middle of the squad bay with a command presence 10 times greater than his stature! Shortly (no pun intended) after, Cpl. Morrow and I were walking some where on base together. He had dropped his instructor "character´ and spoke to me like we were old buddies. As a new Marine, this was strange but very cool. He was very well liked by all of the new Marines and training cadre. At the end of the training cycle and before the newly trained Marines went off to their new units, SOI command staff hosted the "Gong Show." It was an opportunity for the young Marines to "roast" their instructors - usually by doing impressions. I had purchased a toddler´s shirt from the PX that said "Little Marine, Big Attitude" on the front. I had all of the Marines in Cpl. Morrow´s platoon sign it. I presented the shirt to Cpl. Morrow at the Gong Show and the room erupted with laughter, including Cpl. Morrow. I´ve thought about him over the years and wondered where life had taken him. He left a lasting impression on me. Rest in peace my friend and God bless your family. Thank you for being a great example for a young Marine so long ago.
