Maynard Curtis Obituary

Maynard Lee Curtis

March 31, 1942 -

August 9, 2025

JONESBOROUGH - Mr. Maynard Lee Curtis, age 83, Jonesborough, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family.

Mr. Curtis was born March 31, 1942, in Johnson City, Tennessee to Andrew Martin Curtis and Para Lee Copas Curtis. He was married for 62 years to the love of his life, Linda Fay Phillips Curtis, and together they raised two daughters, Alison Fawn Tucker and Melanie Lee Tilson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Alison Fawn Tucker, siblings, Ernest Curtis, Howard Curtis, J.A. Curtis, Lexie Curtis, Carl Curtis, Bill Curtis, J. B. Curtis, Marie Smith, Gary Curtis, and Jerry Curtis and a beloved nephew, Robert (Bobby) Horace Oliver.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Fay Phillips Curtis; daughter, Melanie Lee Tilson; and his devoted son-in-law, Tony Lynn Tilson, with whom he shared a close and cherished bond; siblings, Ruth Brant, Rachel Godsey, and Kenneth Curtis; grandchildren, Emilee Elise Howard, Ammanda Ashton Tucker-Modzelewski (David), Andrew Joseph Tucker (LeAnn), Alexis Nicole Staab (Robert), Whitnee Lynn Matheson (David), and Jacob Lee Tilson; and great-grandchildren, Kylie Ann Tucker, Amelia Maureen Staab, Colton Joseph Tucker, Kinley Alison Tucker, Everett Mason Staab, Maggie Ann Fawn Howard, Hadlee Faye Matheson, Ada May Matheson, Braden Elias Howard and soon-to-be Ordie David Matheson; and several loved nieces and nephews.

Maynard was an avid and die-hard University of Tennessee football fan who loved everything about Tennessee sports. He enjoyed golfing with his wife and anyone wanting to join him. He was always ready for a long country road drive with hie wife, daughters and grandchildren-you never knew quite where you'd end up. He took great pride in keeping his yard looking the best in the neighborhood and loved coaching little league teams, as well as playing basketball and softball. Maynard cherished gathering with family and friends for competitive games of Rook, which often became epic nights filled with laughter.

He was known for his infectious grin, love of life, and the joy he found in being surrounded by friends and family. Extremely neighborly, calm, and headstrong, Maynard was always happy for others and their successes, content to live a life filled with kindness, connection, and simple pleasures.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Dillow-

Earlier today

Want to express my condolences to Linda, Lee(Tony) and extended family. Maynard was a wonderful person and friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Maynard had a way to always make you feel good and loved. I can picture his big grin right now. God Bless Linda and family.

Earlier today

Maynard was an assistant baseball coach with Jonesboro Midget League, along with the late Harrell Phillips, in 1971. Coach Phillips trusted me in center field (though I usually played right field). But Coach Maynard trusted me playing second base! What an honor! I wasn't all that good, but I got my first chances with these guys. After seeing so many kids, I'm sure it's hard to keep track of every single one of them. But, rest assured, the kids, especially this one, never forgot those times to play, or for me, at least try. Again, I'm very grateful. I'm sorry he isn't here now, but I'll say once more, thanks, Maynard.
