Mary Lou (Street) (Hicks) Hawk went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, after a long, hard battle with lung cancer. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of First Baptist Church Jonesborough. After raising her children, Mary Lou entered the work force. She worked as an Animal Care and Use Coordinator for the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources at ETSU College of Medicine until her cancer diagnosis forced her to retire. There she made many lifelong friends.
Mary Lou is preceded in death by her grandparents, Ray and Katheryn Kennerly and James and Cleo Street.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Rachel (Jeff) Turnmire and Levi Hicks; her brother (whom she helped raise), Parker (Robin) Street; her niece, Taylor (Zach) Jackson; her parents, Dean and Katheryn Street; her grandchildren that she loved dearly, Charlie Turnmire, Leo Hicks and Mable Hicks; special sisters-in-law, Pepper (Joe) Frazier and Ginger (Larry) Lane; and her special lifelong friends, Mitzi Calloway, Lisa Armentrout and Joy Horton. Mary Lou is also survived by her husband, Larry.
The family would like to express a deep sense of gratitude to Amedisys Hospice for their patience and care during this difficult time.
Per Mary Lou's request, there will be no service. Friends and family wishing to pay condolences are welcome at the homes of the family members. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Lou's memory can be made First Baptist Church Jonesborough.

Mary Lou was such a positive influence on my life at a time when a truly needed one. She fed Parker and I many a time when we were hungry (a fantastic cook she was!) and I never left her house when didn´t feel like she had given me something truly special. It could have been a delicious meal for my belly, a wonderful classic or southern rock song in my head, a laugh or funny story for my memory, or most importantly, thoughts and food for my everlasting soul. She made me feel special every time I was around her. I loved Mary Lou, and she will be missed here on this Earth deeply, but Heaven just received a very special angel. My thoughts and prayers are with Kay, Dean, Rachel, Levi, Parker and all the family. May God bring you peace and comfort during this time. Love you all, Crockett

As friends when we were little girls, I went to Mary Lou´s birthday party. After the party, we decided to go wade in the creek, in the dead of winter. We laughed about that often and talked about how unhappy her Mother was! Miss Kay, I am so sorry for you and your family´s loss
