Marshall Earl Tate, born November 11, 1933, went to his Heavenly home on November 8, 2025 at the James H Quillen Mountain Home VA Hospital. Marshall graduated from Boones Creek High School class of 1952. Marshall honorably served his country in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 in Japan. He later rejoined during the Vietnam Conflict, serving another 3 years from December 1961 to 1964 as a M-1 rifle sharpshooter and expert M-147 rifleman.
Marshall was pre-deceased by his father, Billie Tate Sr., mother Ada Ellison Tate, brother Billie Tate Jr., sister Maxine Vaughn, and baby sister Thelma Ruth Tate.
He is survived by his loving and caring sister, Palma Tate Hodges, a special niece Anita Hodges-Taylor, who cared for him during his latest illness, along with his long-time special friend Judy Hancock and her daughter Lynn. He is also survived by several other nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to his wonderful neighbors, Larry and Ginger Lane for their many years of love and care, VA nurse practitioner Deanna Patterson, NA nurse Kristin Benson, Lori Greene and the Amedisys Hospice care givers.
Marshall always thought of others before himself. To continue his giving spirit, those who wish may contribute in his honor to second harvest food bank of Northeast Tennessee.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 2:00pm in Mountain Home National Cemetery.
