ELIZABETHTON - Margaret Ann Brown Jones, 85, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024 in the Hermitage Health Center. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Frank & Missouri McKinney Brown. She was a graduate of Cloudland High School; Milligan College and she received her Masters Degree from East Tennessee State College. She was a retired School Teacher after 31 years of service. She had taught for several years at Happy Valley Middle School. She was very active in her church, True Gospel Baptist Church. She was a former President of the Gideon Auxiliary and a former president of the retired Teachers of Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James G. "Buddy" Jones who passed away July 11, 2017 and by two brothers: Donald Brown and Elmer Brown.
Survivors include her daughter: Jennifer Forbes. Her Grandsons: James (Morgan) Forbes and Jacob Forbes, a granddaughter: Julie Forbes, a great granddaughter: Lily Teal Forbes. Two Sisters: Norma Jean Dyer and Creola (Shelby) Miller. Two Brothers: Bill (Brenda) Brown and Larry Brown.
Graveside Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2024 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Dean Presnell officiating. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday will be: James Forbes, Jacob Forbes, Julie Forbes, Andrew Bailey and Noah Barnette. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Hermitage Health Center for taking such good care of Mrs. Jones and also a special thank you to her roommate Betty Montgomery. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Carter County Imagination Library, Elizabethton-Carter County Library, 201 N. Sycamore Street, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643.
