She was the daughter of the late James Garfield Hoss and Myrtle Crumley Hoss, who preceded her in death (James – December 9, 1931 and Myrtle – April 3, 1975). She was also preceded in death by (9) sisters and brothers (Lillian Hoss Eliis and Mae Hoss Winters both of Shell Creek, TN / Lydia Ruth Hoss Lewis of Bladensburg, MD / Paul Hoss and Edith Hoss Jones of Johnson City, TN / Carl Hoss, Margaret Hoss Buck and Helen Hoss Hughes of Elizabethton, TN / Ellen Hoss Hughes of Roan Mountain) and (2) husbands (Frank Shipley and Howard "Red" Hardin). She is survived by her (4) sons and one daughter (Larry Hoss of Fairfax, VA / Scotty Hardin of Valley Head, AL / Tony Hardin of Mount Pleasant, SC / Ricky Hardin of the home and Pamela Sells of Bluff City, TN). She is also survived by (9) grandchildren and (15) great-grandchildren. Also, several nieces and nephews.
She retired from the Bemberg and North American Rayon Corporation in Elizabethton, TN after 35 years of service. Upon retirement, she enjoyed her love of sewing, from which she had started at the age of 5 years old by an aunt. She sewed clothes for her grandchildren when they were small children and then threw herself into quilting and crocheting. She created items that she and her granddaughter marketed and sold for many years at craft shows in the VA and TN areas (quilts, Christmas tree skirts, tree ornaments, table runners, placemats and wall hangings) as well as giving to her family members to treasure. She continued sewing up until the Fall of 2022.
She also enjoyed flowers, plants and her beloved pets (dogs and cats) over the years.
