Dr. Louann S. O'Dell December 23, 1953- July 5, 2024
JONESBOROUGH - Dr. Louann S. O'Dell, age 70, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 5, 2024, at her residence in Jonesborough Tennessee.
Louann was born December 23, 1953, to Byron B. O'Dell and the late Frankie "Louise" Blackburn O'Dell in Marietta Georgia. Louann was a faithful member of the Central Baptist Church where she served as the parish nurse for the last 15 years. Louann loved to read and often read multiple books per week. She enjoyed quilting and had many wonderful adventures with her mother and other quilting buddies. Louann loved to travel and had traveled to most of the states, as well as interesting countries such as Amsterdam, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Estonia, and Barbados. Louann O'Dell retired from Ballad Health Alliance where she worked as a Clinical Informatics Coordinator. She also retired from King University where she created the master's & doctoral nursing students' biostatistics course. She was a graduate of Florida International University receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care Management in 1976, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Western Carolina University in 2007, a Master of Science Degree in Healthcare Management from the University of Northern Colorado and ended her academic journey at East Tennessee State University completing a Doctor of Nursing Practice.
Louann was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother Frankie Blackburn, her mother, Frankie "Louise" Blackburn O'Dell; her son Tony Mathews; Dennis Mullen, brother-in-law; and L. Richard Mathews.
Survivors left to cherish her memory are her father, Byron B. O'Dell Johnson City, TN, Tiffany Marie Plemmons (Hanley) Waynesville, N.C., brothers Byron B. O'Dell (Bud) Jr. (Wilma) Naylor, Georgia, David Campbell O'Dell, Sugarloaf Key, Florida, sister Susan Elaine Mullen, Orange Park, Florida; four grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews; a much loved aunt, Carol O'Dell, Hiawassee Georgia; her best friend, colleague and caregiver, Gail Broyles; wonderful neighbors and her special little Yorkie ~ Kaci.
The family of Louann would like to thank Chris LeBron for taking such good care of Kaci. Thanks to doctors Debalina Das, Blair Reece, Samardia Missick, Deepiks Nallala, Sallee Randolph, Benjamin Potter and Jared Cordon for her care. In addition, special thanks are given to the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Driving Program, Achieve Orthotics, and Anchor Physical Therapy. Words cannot express how much the family of Louann appreciates Amedisys Home Health and Amedisys Hospice.
The family of Dr. Louann S. O'Dell will receive friends from 10 to 11 am Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. The funeral service will follow at 11 am with Dr. Tommy Hood officiating. Special music by Dennis Maddox. The entombment service will follow at 12:30 pm at Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Hoyt Plemmons, Keith Broyles, Heath Broyles, Matt O'Dell, Greg Kipe, Jeremy Pearce. Honorary pallbearers will be The Esther Sunday School Class at Central Baptist Church.
