Lewis Hawkins Obituary


Lewis Reno Hawkins, 84, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, at his home.

Mr. Hawkins was born April 6, 1940, in Shenandoah County, Virginia and was the son of the late Charles and Gladys Elizabeth Stickley Hawkins. Lewis graduated in 1958 from Triplett High and Vocational School in Mt. Jackson and was a member of Christ United Church of Christ in Conicville. He was an over-the-road truck driver throughout his career and spent many years working for Smith's Transfer. Lewis was a dedicated fan of the Washington Commanders and Washington Nationals. He also enjoyed watching John Wayne western movies.

Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Patricia Ann Tusing Hawkins. Also surviving are three children, Sheila McDonaldson and husband, Kenny of Elkton, John Hawkins and wife, Kate of Sarasota, Florida, and Scott Hawkins and wife, Mary of Lynchburg; three brothers, Ray Hawkins and wife, Linda of Woodstock, Gary Hawkins and wife, Donna, and Eddie Hawkins and wife, Joyce, all of Mt. Jackson; six grandchildren, Kathryn Hawkins, Ryan Hawkins, Michael Hawkins, Ashley Hawkins, Hillary Buly and husband, Ben, and Clark Hawkins and wife, Emma; a great-grandson, Oscar Hawkins, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In keeping with wishes, the family will commemorate his life privately. A private service will take place at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Pastor Trevor Whetzel and Pastor Kimberly Webb officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Harrisonburg Rescue Squad.
