JOHNSON CITY - Kenneth Wayne Sheets, 90, Johnson City passed away peacefully, Friday, April 10, 2026 at his residence with his family at his side. He was born in Washington County February 22, 1936 and was a son of the late Benjamin and Lula Greer Sheets.
He proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1962, including a tour in Germany. Kenneth lived a life defined by unwavering faith, devotion to his family, and a strong and steady work ethic. His kindness, dedication, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Kenneth found great joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. He loved tending to his garden, sharing stories, gathering with family for Sunday dinners, and lifting his voice in song for the Lord. His faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life, and he lived it daily through his love, patience, and servant's heart. Nothing brought him greater happiness than watching his family grow and flourish.
His legacy endures in the faith he shared, the values he instilled, and the love he gave to his family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty Casey Sheets and 12 siblings.
He is survived by his son, Michael; grandchildren, Jason (Katie) and Jennifer; great-grandchild Adriana (John); great-great-grandchildren, Ava, Rowen, and Bennett; and three siblings, Glenn Sheet, Mary Murray and Brenda Pritchard; also several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service for Kenneth will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 15, 2026 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastors Todd and Mary Ellis and Rev. Doug Wagner officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 16, 2026 in the Roselawn Memory Park, Johnson City. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, his sister Brenda, and Woodall-Anderson & Dugger Funeral Services.
He has gone home to the Lord he loved, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and family that will never fade.
