Karen Shields Obituary

October 2, 1958 – October 17, 2023

ELIZABETHTON - Karen Elizabeth Shields of Elizabethton died October 17, 2023, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

Karen was born in Johnson City October 2, 1958, to Rosemarie and Bruce Shields. The family moved to Cogan House, Pennsylvania, then to Allentown, and later to Tubingen, Germany, where Karen completed Wildermuth Gymnasium. She graduated from Milligan College in 1980, moving to Madison, Wisconsin, and Las Vegas, Nevada, before returning to East Tennessee, where she worked for ETSU and Siemens Corp. At the time of her death, she was employed by Home Instead and as Administrative Assistant at Hopwood Memorial Christian Church, of which she was also a member.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband, William Power and her brothers James and Robert She leaves her parents, Bruce and Rosemarie Shields, of Johnson City, and her daughter, Alexandra Power, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and a niece, Elizabeth Grace Shields, of Brooklyn, New York.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, October 23, at Hopwood Memorial Christian Church, adjacent to the campus of Milligan University, at 7:00 p.m., with visitation at 6:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Hopwood Memorial Christian Church building fund or the Robert B. Shields Scholarship Fund at Milligan University.
