During her final earthly days, she was surrounded by her dear family, friends, and loving companions as she transitioned from her earthly home to her Heavenly home.
June was born on August 10,1930 in Johnson City, TN to Roy James Mink and Flossie Mae Robinson Mink. She has one brother, Roy James Mink, Jr. who currently resides in Franktown, VA. June was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband of 37 years, Frederick N. Kegley in 1984; and her second husband of 5 years, C. Dale Padgett in 2000.
To honor and cherish her memory and loving care, June is survived by her daughter, Daphne Joy Kegley Stoots and husband, Larry, Johnson City, TN; her son, Stephen Jerome Kegley and wife Traci, Piney Flat, TN; and her daughter-in-love, Kemberly Couch, Jonesborough, TN. She has 4 great-grandchildren and another great-granddaughter due in June 2024: John Theodore "Teddy" Molettiere (Lara); Frederick Andrew "Freddie" Molettiere (Lara); Marta Ann Cooper (Jared); Annabeth Jean Kegley (Zak); and to arrive in June 2024, Kendell Brooke Kegley (Zak). June is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
June was born in Johnson City, TN. At the age of 5, her family moved to Bristol, VA, where she grew up and graduated from Bristol Virginia High School. At the age of 12, she accompanied Rev. Cather from Euclid Avenue Baptist Church to a revival at a small country church in Benhams, Va. where she played a pump organ for the service. After the service, she was standing on the wooden porch, slipped and fell into the arms of her future husband, Fred Kegley. She married Fred in 1948. In 1949, Fred was transferred to the Erwin office of the Inter-Mountain Telephone Company (currently BrightSpeed). They joined Ninth Street Baptist Church where they were active members and June played the organ for 72 years, from 1949 to December 2022. June worked at the Clinchfield Railroad (currently CSX) Main Office in Erwin for 27 years, retiring in 1984, when all administrative positions were moved to other locations. She worked as a switchboard operator, in the accounting and legal departments, and her last position was as an Executive Secretary in the General Manager's office. After her retirement from the railroad, she worked with a law firm in Johnson City for 2 years, then worked as the church secretary at First Baptist Church in Erwin for the remainder of working career to retirement in 1995.
After retirement, June married her second husband, C. Dale Padgett, in 1995. After his passing in 2000, she moved to Johnson City in 2004 to be closer to her daughter and family.
After retiring from playing the organ at Ninth Street Baptist Church in December 2022, June attended Piney Flats First Baptist Church, Piney Flats, TN with her family.
June's family wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt appreciation for the excellent care provided to her by the physicians and staff in the Emergency Room at Franklin Woods Hospital; the physicians and staff on the 2000 West floor at Bristol Regional Medical Center; her primary care physician, Dr. Gordon Moughon and his nurse, Tina, Erwin; Caris Hospice and staff; Brighter Days Companion Care; Yvonne Gross, her special friend and companion: and her private caregivers.
June loved her church families and Christian music. She believed that her love of music and her talent for playing the piano and organ were a gift from God. June returned God's gift to Him by serving Him faithfully for 83 years with His gift of music talent to her. She graciously donated her time and talent as a pianist and organist, not only to church services but also for special services, weddings, and funerals. She sent a lot of notes and cards of encouragement to many people and often signed her name followed by a music note.
In honor of her love for her churches and Christian music, a Musical Celebration of Life will be held for June at Piney Flats First Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 7:00 PM. Music will be provided by her family and close friends, Daniel Seth O'Kegley, grandson; Anthony Mangrum, nephew; Traci Kegley, Daughter-in-law; Ray Bowman, friend and Minister of Music at Ninth Street Baptist Church, Erwin, and Becky Manful, pianist at Ninth Street Baptist Church, who played with June for many years. Dr. Chris Ward, June's friend and former pastor, Livingston, TN, will present the eulogy. Dr. Allen Davis, Piney Flats First Baptist Church, June's pastor, and family will lead the service.
The Family will receive friends immediately prior to the Musical Celebration of Life in the Church sanctuary from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Interment will be beside her first husband, Frederick N. Kegley, at Roselawn Memorial Park, 3033 S. Roan St, Johnson City, TN at 12:00 Noon, on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Those attending the graveside service will meet at the graveside by 11:50 am Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be June's grandsons: Jared, Seth, Zak, Cory, and Dawson; Great-grandson Teddy; Son-in-law, Larry; and Grandson-in-law, John. The honorary pallbearer is June's great-grandson, Freddie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Church Music program at Ninth Street Baptist Church, Erwin, TN or the Church Music program at Piney Flats First Baptist Church, Piney Flats, TN.
