Judy Treadway Thompson

Judy Treadway Thompson passed away Monday, December 30, 2024 at her residence. She was born October 19, 1944 in Elizabethton Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late T.R. "Zeke" Treadway and Lucille Jones Treadway. She is preceded in death by her first husband Mack McClelland and second husband Dr. Haymond Thompson; a brother, John Treadway.
Judy was a graduate of Happy Valley High School in 1962. While there, she won the DAR and girls state. She attended Milligan College and graduated in 1966 with a B.S. degree. She started teaching in Jacksonville, FL and later returned in 1968 to start the first elementary physical education. Later, in 1971, she moved to T.A. Dugger Jr. High School teaching health and physical education. She had the first demonstration school in physical education in 1989 in the state. In 1989 she helped to write the curriculum in health and physical education for k – 12 in the state.
Judy retired in 2001 from teaching and became the Newspaper in Education Director for the Elizabethton Star for the next few years. She never stopped being a part of the Elizabethton City School System as a substitute teacher and retired in November of 2024, which was a very sad day in her life. She loved all her students.
Judy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 80 years. While there, she served in many areas. She loved her church and had a ministry for caring for others with cards and meals, made many pies and cakes, which was her joy.
Those left to cherish the many memories of Judy include her sons, Chad McClelland and wonderful wife Tena, Mark Thompson and wife Kathy, of Madison Alabama, adopted son Jeff Ayock and wife Laura; adopted daughter, Beth Moore; granddaughters; Madison McClelland and Krysten (Andrew) Jackman, of Michigan; number one grandson, Rodney Krone; brother, Larry Treadway; sister -in- law; Merilee Thompson, of Phoenix, Arizona; Aunt Lois Jones, of Johnson City; nieces: Jennifer (Martin) Chipman, Heather (Matt) King, Betsy (Brent) Waltner, Kara (Will) Hathaway and Teresa (Dale) Hinson; great nieces/nephew: Tameria McRath, Sydney Curtis and Jacob Williams; very special niece, Amie (Mike) Williams; great granddaughter, Naomi Jackman; special friends: Leigh Neal, Larey and Chris Pippin, Larry and Ida Bryant, Wes and Betty Frasier, Jeremy and Kelsey Hodge, Jack and Sonja Cole, Russell Kyte, Frank Mustard, Mark and Carolyn Slaughter.
A service to celebrate the life of Judy will be conducted on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 11:30 AM in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Sorah, Rev. Randy Johnson and Mr. Mike Koruschak, Minister officiating. The music will be under the direction of Elmer Sams, Jr. and Teresa Sorah. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be David Bass, Shaun Witten, Wes Frasier, Jeff Ayock, Jay Scurry, Frank Mustard, Jacob Williams and Larry Bryant. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lucas Andrews, Jason Witten, Ryan Witten, Bryan Jenkins, Mark Hyatt, Charles Snail, Pete Paduch, Larey Pippin, Rodney Krone, Richard Culver, Jeff Gurley, Jac Gurley, Russell Kyte, Bill Breeding, Dr. Shane Adams and Elmer Sams Jr., Bill Jones, Keith Jones, Bill Krecker and Gary Pierce.
The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to Dr. Bremer, his staff, and Lingerfelt Drug Center for caring for Judy's needs.
She loved her Heavenly Father, her friends and all of her students.
