ELIZABETHTON - On Sunday April 28, 2024, Jim Matheson 82, Elizabethton, known as "Pop" to many, went to be with Jesus after a long battle with cancer. He was born August 12, 1941.

Jim was the son of Andy Matheson and Eliza O'Neil Matheson of the Butler community. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his sister Marcella Stoffregen and brothers Richard Matheson, G.W. Matheson and his twin brother John Matheson.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jackie McGee Matheson of Elizabethton, his children; Angie & (Ernie) Odom, Eric & (Keisha) Matheson, Teresa & (Stacy) McKinney, and Rusty & (Sarah) Pippin; his beloved sister, Shirley Sharpe; Grandchildren: Hope Williams, Angel Greene, Avery Matheson, Rhylee Hinkle, Isabella Trent, Jacob McKinney, Riley McKinney, Callie Pippin & Nate Pippin; as well as several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jim is also survived by his Valley Forge Praise Choir Family and his Musician Group Family: Gina Johnson (who he called his best friend), Zach Montgomery, Andy Johnson, Jon Wilcox, Garrett Johnson, Sarah Pippin, Jeff Snyder, & Megan Harsh.

Jim was a faithful member of the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. Jim loved his family and his church family with all his heart. Jim had the privilege of playing his guitar with the praise choir for over 30 years. Jim was also a longtime member of the Brotherhood Quartet.

It was Jim's desire to be cremated and to have a celebration of life service to sing some of his favorite songs for the Jesus he loved and served for many years. There will be no receiving of friends, and the celebration of life service will start at 6:30, Wednesday, May 1st at Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church, 1503 Riverview Drive Elizabethton TN. The church doors will be open at 5:00 for anyone who wants to sign the book before the service.

Pastor Randy Johnson and Pastor Mark Potter will officiate the service. Music will be provided by the Valley Forge Praise Choir, Jim's nephew Jeff Sharpe, Joy Abel, Jeff Snyder and Megan Harsh.

Special thanks to our angel Abbie Harris, and the staff at the Tennessee Cancer Center, employees of Amedisys Hospice, employees of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, and his unwavering family, Bobby & Kathy McGee, Shelia Ruston, Eddie & Ginny McGee, Kay McGee, Les & Pauline McKinney, Patti Potter, and our wonderful neighbors who were always willing to help in any way.
