Jennifer Samples Obituary

Jennifer "Alice" Masters Samples

October 19, 1954 -

January 14, 2025

Jennifer "Alice" Masters Samples, age 70, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, at Johnson City Medical Center.

She was born on October 19, 1954, in Johnson City, Tennessee to Jason Bowman "J.B." Masters and Mary Sue Hylton Masters.

She was a proud alumnus of Washington College Academy and was in the first graduating class of David Crockett High School. She graduated from ETSU with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Alice was an honorably discharged Veteran and Captain in the US Army Reserves 912th M.A.S.H. and served in Desert Storm. She was a retired registered nurse from the VA Mountain Home Medical Center where she worked on the Respiratory Ward, O.R., Outpatient Surgery, Cardiac Telemetry, and Patient and Staff Training. Alice was cherished and held in high regard by coworkers and patients, had a compassionate bedside manner, and always had a humorous story to tell. Admitting she was "bossy", she was a born leader.

Alice had a heart for others and always wanted everyone to know they were loved, having a kind word to say to anybody she came across. Growing up on a dairy farm, she had a natural affinity for growing beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables. She canned half-runner beans that the family was blessed to enjoy during Sunday dinners. On most summer mornings, you could find her in her yard tending to her garden. She also embroidered and cross-stitched many beautiful pieces which are now family heirlooms. She was an avid reader and an amazing cook.

Alice was survived by her beloved dog Shep; sister Angela (Mike) Shelton; brother, Mark (Angela) Masters; nieces and nephews: Adam (Candice) Shelton, Whitney (Jordan) Edens, Drew (Katherine) Masters and Dr. Katie Masters (J.C. Moore); great nieces and nephews: Amber, Jade and Michael Shelton, Sydney and Vali Edens, and Ivy and Luke Masters; and a special aunt, Faye Masters, along with a host of cousins.

The family appreciates the prayers and support from extended family members, friends and the staff of Johnson City Medical Center.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home. The Appalachian Highlands Nursing Honor Guard will conduct an honor service at 6 P.M. following the visitation.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be conducted 11:00 AM, Monday, January 20, 2025, at Mt. Wesley Cemetery with Pastor Jeremy Dykes officiating.
