Jeffery Rakes Obituary

PINEY FLATS - Jeffery D. "Jeff" Rakes, 68, of Piney Flats, TN, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Bristol Regional Medical Center following a heart attack earlier in the day. Jeff was born in Greenville, SC, and later settled in Piney Flats, TN. He spent many years living in the sunshine state of Florida, including Orlando and Deltona.
Jeff, a high school graduate from Del Valle High School in Livermore, CA, proudly served in the United States Army for a decade, stationed in various locations across the globe during peacetime. He was dedicated to his work as a crane operator and was the sole employee of Gator Crane Service in Orlando, FL for over two decades.
On August 11, 1990, Jeff married his sweetheart, Marie Susan Lewis, and together they raised their beloved son, James William Rakes. Jeff was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Marie, and son, James.
Jeffery was preceded in death by his parents, Troy Rakes and Edna Lucille Rakes and sister, Ginger Rakes Fisher.
The family will be welcoming friends and loved ones to celebrate Jeff's life at Piney Flats First Baptist Church on Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Dr. Davis. Jeff's committal service will take place at Mountain Home National Cemetery in the Historic Section on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 2:00 pm.
Please join us in honoring Jeff's memory and sharing stories of his life as we come together to celebrate the life of a son, husband, father, and friend. Your presence and support are greatly appreciated during this time of grief.
