Jean Archer Campbell

JONESBOROUGH - Jean Archer Campbell went to be with her Lord and her beloved family and friends on October 3, 2025. Born in Akron, Ohio on May 3, 1930, she lived in the Fairview Community, Jonesborough, TN since 1946.
She was the daughter of Dana Archer of Pleasant Valley and Verna Hall Archer of Stoney Creek. They met and married in Akron. She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Carroll Campbell, infant daughter Leah Lynn Campbell, her parents, sister Ruth Archer Osborne and brother Don Archer.
She is survived by son David A. Campbell (Peggy), daughter Judith C. Plumb (Ron), granddaughter Sarah Plumb, grandson Bryan Plumb (Joanna), and great-granddaughter Leilani Jade Plumb. Archer relatives include nephews Jeff Osborne, Carl Osborne (Sandy), Richard and Matthew Archer, great-nephew Jake Osborne and great-great nephew Drake Osborne, and nieces Angela Wright (Bill dec.) and Amy King (Daryl dec.). A special thanks goes to the wonderful people at Caris Hospice and The Waters of Johnson City for their care during her extended stay.
Jean attended Kenmore High School in Akron, Ohio and graduated from Jonesborough High School, TN. She graduated Cum Laude from East Tennessee State University with a degree in English and History. She was a member of Kappa Delta Phi and the University Chorus.
Until her retirement from the Washington County School System, she taught English, World Literature and Spanish at Lamar and David Crockett High Schools, where she served as sponsor of Pep Club, Spanish Club, Flag Squad, and Freshman Cheerleaders, and assisted in music and drama productions. She especially loved teaching freshmen.
Jean accepted Jesus at an early age and was a devoted member of Fairview Methodist Church for over 60 years, serving as Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director and choir member, Youth Leader, Bible School Director, and on several committees. Currently, she was Church Altar Guild Chairman and Church Historian. In 2008, she authored the book DREAM which honors the 100th anniversary of Fairview Church's ministry. For ten years, she published a series of Advent Devotions for her church. She was a singer. As a child in Akron, she sang in several local churches (until she had her tonsils removed and her voice changed). She was a member of Fairview Choir and ETSU Chorus.
Mrs. Campbell was a member of the Methodist Women and a member and former president of the Leesburg Home Demonstration Club. She was a life-time lover of music, singing, teaching, humor, children and teens, sports (especially baseball), reading, writing poetry, articles and stories, and being with her family and her beloved dog Gypsy.
Jean Campbell's life was devoted to being a good wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and teacher and to serving God and her Church. She considered these the greatest of all achievements and thanked God for her talents. Her life was one of love and service. She leaves her family and friends with a promise: "I'll meet you in the morning by the bright riverside."
Visitation will be held at Fairview Methodist Church, Jonesborough, Saturday, October 18 from 11:00 to 12:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service led by Pastor Randall Emmert. A graveside service will be held immediately after.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairview Methodist Church.
